Teenager is a love story for people who don't feel love. Kody loves Tella Carticelli. He has been released from a home for wayward youth, after his threat to blow up the high school with a fertilizer bomb. He is on his way to see Tella Carticelli's parents because they are about to put her on an airplane to Italy, and he might never see her again. Kody has a gun in his pocket and he is climbing down from his lookout on the water tower to go and pay the Carticellis a visit before it'stoo late. Violence erupts in the cozy house. Afterwards, Kody drives a stolen car, Teal sitting despondently in the passenger seat. Finally she says, "Why'd you have to kill my mom?" Kody has an easy explanation for that, he says, "She loved your dad as much as I love you." Tella nods, understanding it one of a million different ways. They go off in search of a long gone America. The police and Teal's brother in pursuit. Kody had considered the consequences, and is fine with all of them. Jail. Death. Hell. Time with Tella Carticelli, no matter how limited, was all he cared about.
